The image that appears when one thinks Australia is usually the Sydney Harbour Bridge or the Opera House, Ayers Rock or a kangaroo hopping down City Street. Although, such imagery may not be completely representative, but it does highlight the fact that "Down Under" is vastly different from any place one may have visited. Australia is huge with large stretches of desert, tropical wetlands and seemingly infinite horizons. It is, however, largely empty - 19 million people to inhabit an area half the size of Europe, with a majority of concentrated in a handful cities along the coasts.
